Origin Homes has been honored with a 2025 Ames Regional Economic Alliance (AREA) Housing Impact Award for its innovative infill housing development project in Jefferson. The award recognizes the company’s commitment to community-focused development, thoughtful design, and housing solutions that strengthen rural Iowa communities.
Origin Homes’ Jefferson project was recognized for transforming underutilized land into high-quality, attainable housing that complements the existing neighborhood while supporting long-term community sustainability. “Our goal with our Jefferson project was to create homes that feel rooted in the community—homes that are well-designed, efficiently built, and accessible to today’s homebuyers,” said Matt Daniels of Origin Homes. “We are honored to be recognized by the Ames Regional Economic Alliance and grateful for the collaboration with city of Jefferson leaders and partners that made this project possible.”
The city of Jefferson development exemplifies infill housing at its best, revitalizing existing lots within city limits, making efficient use of current infrastructure, and providing new housing opportunities at a fraction of the cost of brand-new subdivisions. The project reflects Origin Homes’ broader mission to deliver thoughtfully planned residential developments that respond to both local needs and market demand.
“Projects like this demonstrate how strategic infill development can support housing growth while preserving the character of long-time established neighborhoods,” said Greg Piklapp, director of Greene County Development Corporation. “Origin Homes’ work in Jefferson is a strong example of how new housing investment can drive economic and community impact with a quick turnaround.”

The Housing Impact Award was presented at the AREA Housing Summit earlier this year, where regional leaders, developers, and community stakeholders gathered to celebrate excellence in housing and economic development across central Iowa.
Jefferson mayor Craig Berry said, “These projects do more than add housing units—they build confidence in Jefferson’s future while helping ensure our community remains competitive, welcoming, and positioned for growth.”
